A conviction we hold

The soon return of Jesus: our living hope

The world can feel like it is coming apart. Into that ache, Jesus made a promise so personal it still steadies us two thousand years later: "I will come again." We do not hold the second coming to frighten anyone — we hold it because it is the best news a hurting world has ever been given.

It is a personal promise, made on a hard night

Jesus gave this promise to friends whose hearts were breaking. "Let not your heart be troubled… I go to prepare a place for you. And… I will come again, and receive you unto myself" (John 14:1–3). It is not a theory about the future. It is a Person who loves you saying, in effect, "I am coming back for you."

It will be real, visible, and unmistakable

His return is not a secret or a feeling. "This same Jesus… shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go" (Acts 1:11). "Every eye shall see him" (Revelation 1:7). No one will have to wonder, and no one will be able to fake it — which is exactly why Jesus warned us not to chase rumors or set dates (Matthew 24:23–27, 36).

Why we say "soon"

We say "soon" the way Jesus and the apostles did — with readiness, not with a date. "Of that day and hour knoweth no man" (Matthew 24:36). To live as if He could come in our lifetime is not anxiety; it is the posture of people who love Him and are watching the door. We hold this conviction from Scripture, not from any denominational calendar.

It turns waiting into hope, not fear

For the believer this is comfort, not dread. Paul calls it "that blessed hope" (Titus 2:13) and tells grieving people to "comfort one another with these words" (1 Thessalonians 4:16–18). Death is not the last word. The people we have lost in Jesus, we will see again. Every tear has an expiration date.

How to be ready — simply

Being ready is not about predicting; it is about belonging to Jesus today.

  • Know Him — readiness is a relationship, not a performance.
  • Stay close — in His Word, in prayer, in a church family.
  • Live loved — let the hope of His return shape how you treat people now.

The one who is walking with Jesus has nothing to fear from His coming — only someone to look forward to.
